What to look out for when buying online
Look out for the TrustUK Hallmark which denotes an approved webtrader
Read the company's PRIVACY POLICY STATEMENT so that you know what personal information they wish to collect and what they are going to do with it – there should be opportunities for you to opt-out of certain uses such as having your personal information passed to other companies
Keep a record of any orders that you place – what you ordered, how much you paid (which must be on the website), how you paid etc.
Keep a record of the company's contact details – both the e-mail address and the terrestrial address and telephone number
Make sure you understand the terms and conditions which apply to the particular transaction you have entered into so that you know what you are agreeing to – these must be available for printing and saving to a separate file
Look carefully at the price of what you are buying and make sure you know if there are any additional costs over and above the basic cost of the goods or services such as post and packing, taxes or duties, extra charges for using a particular payment method
Make sure you have checked how long it will take to deliver the goods or when the service will commence.
